EMILY SPENCE ELEVATED TO CHIEF COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
LOS ANGELES - September 17, 2021 - Diversified global entertainment company MRC today announced Kristin Robinson is joining as Senior Vice President of Communications. Robinson will report to Emily Spence, who has been elevated to Chief Communications Officer and continues to report to the company’s CEOs and Founders, Modi Wiczyk and Asif Satchu.
In her new role, Robinson will oversee external communications across the leading independent’s growing portfolio of television, film, non-fiction and live & alternative. She will also work closely with Spence across internal and corporate communications, inclusive of awards, branding and the company’s partnerships and investments.

Robinson most recently served as Vice President of Brand Marketing and Communications at Shondaland. She served as chief communication strategist for Shonda Rhimes and led all communications and marketing for the brand, including corporate communications, consumer products, immersive experiences, partnerships, Shondaland.com and promotion of the company’s broadcast and streaming content including global hit “Bridgerton,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and upcoming “Inventing Anna.” Robinson also oversaw the brand’s continued expansion into digital content with the launch of Shondaland Audio.
Prior to her role at Shondaland, she was Director of Communications at OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, where she led campaigns across the network’s dramas, specials and documentaries and managed publicity for Oprah’s Book Club and Winfrey’s expansion into podcasts. Her other communications roles include Corporate Communications and Investor Relations at Lionsgate Entertainment, Fox Cable Networks and Nashville-based PR firm Dye, Van Mol and Lawrence (DVL) where she crafted strategies for brands such as Jack Daniel’s and the J.M. Smucker Company. Robinson began her career at the Kellogg Company.
Spence joined MRC in May 2019, as Executive Vice President of Communications to establish the company’s external and internal communications practice. She and her cross-functional team support the company’s content divisions and various partnerships and investments inclusive of external communications, corporate, awards, rebrands, mergers and acquisitions, partnership and internal communications. Her team includes SVP Robinson, VP Gina Sorial, Executive Director Mike Rocco, Director Casimir Spencer, Junior Publicist Ligia Mallmann, Assistant Leah Palacios and Executive Assistant Sheridan Holmes. They have designed and implemented communications strategies for the company’s iconic and award-winning properties including “Knives Out,” “The Great,” “Ozark,” “Sparks Brothers” as well as its annual live shows including the “American Music Awards,” “Billboard Music Awards,” and “Academy of Country Music Awards.” Prior to joining MRC, Spence ran a communications practice with clients including Amazon Studios, BuzzFeed, Meredith Corporation, Warner Brothers Television and NBCUniversal. She previously held communications roles at companies including NBCUniversal, A&E Networks and Viacom.
MRC recently announced its expansion into streaming for its Live & Alternative division with the “Academy of Country Music Awards” on Amazon Prime Video and are in pre-production on the “American Music Awards,” with showrunner Jesse Collins, to air live on ABC on November 21. MRC’s leading independent television studio will debut limited series “The Shrink Next Door,” starring Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd on November 12 on Apple TV+, and launch season two of “The Great,” starring Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult on Hulu on November 19th. The studio is in various stages of production on series including: “Ozark,” starring Jason Bateman, Laura Linney and Julia Garner for Netflix; “The Terminal List,” starring Chris Pratt for Amazon; and, for Apple TV+, “Shining Girls” starring Elisabeth Moss and “Hello Tomorrow!,” starring Billy Crudup. The film studio recently wrapped production on “The Mothership,” starring Halle Berry for Netflix, “Jerry and Marge Go Large” starring Bryan Cranston and Annette Bening for Paramount+, and “Persuasion,” starring Dakota Johnson and Henry Golding, for Netflix. MRC Non-FIction released “Sparks Brothers,” Edgar Wright’s documentary feature debut with Focus Features, and is in production on several projects.
