We live by our mission and values

Built on a foundation of expertise in behavioral health

Connections Health Solutions was founded in 2009 by Dr. Chris Carson and Dr. Robert Williamson, who had both previously developed and implemented numerous crisis centers and programs in Texas and Arizona. Since then, the Connections team has grown to include a full staff of medical directors, nurses, therapists, recovery coaches and other support functions. Today, we are consistently recognized as a national leader and innovator in the field of behavioral health services.

Dr. Chris Carson

A nationally recognized leader in managed behavioral health systems, Dr. Carson has extensive leadership experience, as well as a strong background in crisis services. In 2001, he pioneered the creation of a crisis center in Dallas, Texas that was recognized by Mental Health America for its “outstanding contributions to community mental health.” A native of Oklahoma, Dr. Carson received his MD from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and earned his MBA from the University of Arizona.

Dr. Robert Williamson

Specializing in emergency psychiatric care, Dr. Williamson’s experience in hospital settings runs deep. In 2010, after Connections Health Solutions assisted Banner Health in developing and managing a crisis program, Dr. Williamson served as the first Medical Director of the Banner Psychiatric Center. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and American Medical Association, and received his MD from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Dr. Margaret (Margie) Balfour, Chief of Quality and Clinical Innovation

A leader in quality improvement and behavioral health crisis services, Dr. Balfour was named Doctor of the Year by the National Council for Behavioral Health for her work at the Crisis Response Center in Tucson, where she led an organizational change initiative that greatly improved the quality and timeliness of care. She is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona, and frequently publishes and speaks on topics including outcome measurement, emergency psychiatry, and law enforcement responses to mental illness.
